Belarus	Tractors Tractors are the main source of power in agriculture. No agriculture machinery plays such an important role. Tractors can be classified by different criterions. By the purpose criterion, they could be devided on farm, vineyard-fruityard and forestal tractors. By the concept criterion, we could devide them on double-axle and single-axle tractors (walking tractors or motocultivators). 58/5 Classic tractor consists of engine, chassis, transmission, steering mechanism, hydraulics and wheels. The principle of work is transfer of power produced by an engine on the back or all four wheels through transmission.31/1 Transmission consists of clutch, gearbox and differential. The purpose of clutch is to devide transmission gears from the engine crankshaft during starting and changing gears. Gearbox is a device for changing gears. Instead of classic gearboxes, many modern tractors use hydrostatic transmission and variators. Differential enables tractor's wheels to move independently.52/1 Tractor can have 2-wheel drive (2WD) and 4-wheel drive (4WD) system. The tires on the both front and rear wheels (or just rear wheels) are with deep lugs in order to achieve better traction. For the same reason rear tires are larger. For example, IMT 539 tractors, which are basically a replica of Massey Ferguson and most present tractors in Croatia and wider, have 6-16 front tires and 11,2-28 rear tires. The first number indicates its widht and the second indicates its diameter in inches.85/3 PTO shaft transfers the power to tractor implements through a caardan joint.. Usually PTO shaft is set on the rear side of the tractors, but there are models that have it in the front or both sides. Important parameters with PTO shaft are rounds per minute (rpm's) and direction of rotation. You have to consider them in choosing tractor implements. Most implements work on 540 rpm and tractors are usually set to achieve this speed on 75% of nominal power. For example, if a tractor's engine has nominal speed of rotation 2500 rpm, 540 rpm on PTO shaft will be achieved on cca. 1875 rpm. Dimensions of PTO shafts are standard 34,9 mm. On the rear bridge tractors are equipped with hydraulic and 3-point hitch that are used for attaching and lifting tractor implements.
